The FBI, Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and US Department have issued a joint warning on crypto thefts and tactics used by Lazarus Group, a North Korean state-sponsored group (also called APT38, BlueNoroff and Stardust Chollima). The US government said North Korean cyber actors had been targeting “crypto exchanges, DeFi protocols, P2E crypto video games, crypto trading companies, VC funds investing in crypto, and individual holders of large amounts of crypto or valuable NFTs”. To protect against such bad actors, they advised prioritizing patching known exploited vulnerabilities, training users to recognize and report phishing attempts. and using multi-factor authentication.
Ireland has banned crypto donations to political parties under new political integrity laws drafted due to fears of Russian interference in Irish politics. Minister Darragh O’Brien proposed amendments covering rules on foreign donations, misinformation, and other transparency requirements for political parties. He said the laws would further protect Ireland’s democratic system, “given the escalating threat of cyber warfare targeting free countries”, and that a newly established Electoral Commission will oversee compliance with the laws.
Olga Skorobogatova, first deputy chairman Central Bank of Russia, has said a digital ruble is “very much needed”, and that the bank will move forward with upcoming tests of the prototype currency platform. She added that while not all participating banks are technically ready to participate in the tests at the moment, this would not affect the project’s timing to issue the Russian central bank digital currency (CBDC).
Bitmain has unveiled new machines that indicate much greater hashpower for next-generation mining rigs: the Antminer S19 XP (140 TH/s), Antminer S19 Pro+ Hyd (up to 198 TH/s) and hydro ASIC unit, the Antminer S10 XP Hyd (255 TH/s). But despite not being as powerful as Bitmain’s latest machines, Microbt’s newest rigs are more powerful than other machines currently in production. The company recently unveiled its Whatsminer M50 (126 TH/s) series, which boasts a full-custom chip design and a power efficiency rating of 26 joules J/TH. Based on current BTC exchange rates and $0.12 per kWh in electricity, a 110 TH/s mining rig produces an estimated daily $10.48 in BTC profits.
Animoca Brands has acquired a major stake in Aussie digital marketing agency Be Media, which has provided Web2 firms with advertising and digital strategy services for nearly a decade. Under the acquisition, Be Media will seek out partnerships with top Aussie brands relevant to Animoca’s blockchain initiatives (including NFTs and an “open Metaverse”). An official announcement said Be Media has “begun an aggressive hiring process in the fields of blockchain development and project management”, and CEO Jordan Fogarty will retain a minor stake while remaining in his current role.

BTC briefly hit a 5-week low to approximately $38,547 yesterday morning before rebounding to its most recent price of $40,800, remaining in its months-long $36,000 — $48,000 range. Similarly, ETH fell below $3,000 to a low of $2,880 early yesterday before recovering to above $3,000. Other major altcoins did considerably better over the past 24 hours: ADA rose 5.88% to $0.930423, SOL 7.8% to $102.31 and LUNA 17.08% to $89.79. Within the same period, meme tokens SHIB and DOGE also saw increases, with the former rising 4.12% to $0.000025 and the latter 3.87% to $0.139915.
