SHIB is created as an experiment in decentralized spontaneous community building, the first token created by its team. As it is alternative to Dogecoin, please refer to the latter for a better understanding.

The total supply of SHIB is 1,000,000,000,000,000, among which, 50% are locked to Uniswap with the key threw away and the remaining tokens have been sent to Vitalik Buterin's wallet. The developers and team members have no reserved SHIB, so everyone has to buy the tokens on the open market.
